 Paradox


I had my annual hearing test

for presbycusis


The audiologist recommended

that I wear hearing aids

all of the time

to avoid the induction

of neurophysiological deterioration 

as a result of sensory deprivation


I tried but failed

within thirty minutes

of attempting to follow 

this wise recommendation


When I arrived home

I immediately put on 

noise canceling headphones and comforted by the silence

it was not long before I was writing 

a five page poem
