Legs

Legs We go where our intelligence takes us we walk with our brains we mostly follow  branching paths and switchbacks  circling within spirals in ever spinning wheels Stochastic breakouts from the maze free us to tread into other realms to occassionally change altitude shift orbits and perhaps circle other stars There have always been  a few geniuses amongst us and many people with the ability  to build upon those great ideas and realize our greatest goals Human progress is the measure of our massive social intelligence of a unique collaboration a way of being with a potential to become beneficial to all forms of life on earth and perhaps on other worlds Our world is not an apple whirling silently in space but a universe of astounding potential already technologically aglow as a result of natural selection the means by which  the pinnacle of biological intelligence which is human has taken hundreds of thousands  of years to grow Now we have invented  ar...

The dark sky

The dark sky In a world where the laws of physics are different where we can fly in the clouds high above mountains or accompany creatures of the sea in swirling forests of kelp where people and things are altered but recognizable where consciousness is such that we are aware that we have entered  a parallel universe A person in the room which our body occupies sees it lying still breathing deeply and looks toward the sleeper with an innate reverence an awareness that it is wise not to disturb the magic taking place behind shut eyes When we awaken spontaneously we are aware of the journey back through the wormhole back to everyday reality with a strong sense of how strange it was to be somewhere else for undefinable amount of time We may ponder for a moment or be too busy to care but either way the memory pixelates rapidly and is soon gone although not completely a half forgotten dream about which poets sing a mysterious experience to which we willingly return when the sky i...

Natural Law

Natural Law The myriad of mechanisms clouds of intricacy thickets of complexity mysteries solved unsolved  and not yet recognized which comprise all that is large and all that is small and everything in between everywhere in all imaginable universes exist whether or not there is consciousness available to understand them The tree is there even if no sentient entity is present to witness its fall Toddlers discover physics by bumping and falling into the world around them Astronomers and physicists mathematicians and biologists and all the other scientists and deep thinkers are the toddlers who recognize the phenomena and create the knowledge resulting in the understanding  of the principles  governing natural phenomena the natural laws The unconscious system from which biology emerges creates a consciousness which attempts to understand it The natural laws currently recognized will be improved upon corrected or discarded reconsidered and reinterpreted based upon obs...

Seeing the light

Seeing the light It is November 2022 in Massachusetts in the United States of America I sit on the patio at sunset a glass of beer in hand The light painting the sky departed from the sun eight minutes before it touched my eyes refracted by the atmosphere so I am able to sit in the rainbow Though no fault of my own I am seeing the sun as it was at an earlier time I rub my right eye and am looking through  the scarred cornea of my left as result of an injury at age seven Instantaneously I am hiding behind a bed in a dormitory at the boarding school in Middleburg, South Africa about 8,000 miles from here in an orange peel slingshot battle with my new friends My brain traveled 70 years into the past at 16,000 miles per second more than 10,000 times slower than the speed of light in a vacuum to get me there A half second later I am in the vicinity of  the Yucatán peninsula 65 million years ago with the dinosaurs which suddenly couldn't see the sun A moment later I am 52,000...
